Father’s Day Spending Reaches 8-Year High

nrf-fathers-day-may-2011.JPGAlthough seven in 10 (69%) US adults expects to spend the same on Father’s Day this year as last year, Father’s Day (June 19, 2011) spending should reach its highest point in the eight years it has been tracked by the National Retail Federation (NRF) and BIGresearch. Americans will spend an average of $106.49 on Father’s Day, up 13% from $94.32 last year and 17% from $90.89 in 2009, according to the May 2011 NRF Consumer Intentions and Actions Father’s Day survey.

Slight Majority of Companies Plan More Hiring This Year

The largest share of this group (39%) anticipate a slight hiring increase, while 12% anticipate substantial new hiring activity.

Men, Smartphones Drive EU5 Mobile Banking Growth

Perhaps not surprisingly, smartphone users accounted for nearly 70% of mobile banking users, despite accounting for just 35% of the total mobile population.

Mobile Network Operators Face Cost Crunch

juniper-nightmare-june-2010.JPGMobile network operators are facing a scenario where their capital (capex) and operating (opex) expenses will surpass their revenues by about 2014, according to a June 2010 white paper from Juniper Research. Estimates from “Crunch Time For Mobile Operators” indicate that typical 15-20% margins on operator-billed revenues, which are currently above capex/opex, will meet capex/opex in 2014, fall slightly below expenses in 2015, and begin substantially falling below them in 2016.

US Consumer Spending Down YOY in May ’11

Results of “Dynamics of Cause Engagement” indicate 53% of African-Americans and 52% of Hispanics, but only 42% of Caucasians, are very or somewhat involved with a cause.

Results of “Dynamics of Cause Engagement” indicate 65% of Hispanics and African-Americans strongly or somewhat agree that online social networking sites increase the visibility of causes, 8% higher than the 60% of Caucasians who agree.

Radio Ad Revenue Grows 3% YOY

Strong growth in the digital (21%) and off-air (9%) categories helped propel overall growth.

Groceries Top Item for Mobile Payment

Twenty-five percent of consumers said they would be likely to buy groceries via mobile phone.

Majority of New Auto Insurance Buyers Go Online

Power and Associates 2011 U.S. Insurance Shopping Study. The study indicates 54% of new buyers request their initial quote online, up 23% from 44% who did so in 2007.
