Rising Gas Prices Hit Consumers in Many Areas

For example, for every $10 increase in crude oil price, gas prices rise $0.25 and remove $25 billion from the US economy, according to this article.

May Promotional Email Volume Rises 13% YOY

That’s down 1% week-over-week, down 7% from where it was four weeks ago, and up 13% year-over-year.

Interest in New Gaming Consoles High

nielsen-console-purchase-june-2011.JPGNearly a quarter of US gamers say they would buy a new console (successor to Wii) from Nintendo (27%) within six months of release, but a near-equal share say the same for new Sony (24%) and Microsoft (25%) consoles, according to data from The Nielsen Company. These three consoles have substantially higher percentages of gamers willing to buy within six months of release than any other consoles included in the Nielsen survey.

6 in 10 Americans Likely to Reduce Restaurant, Entertainment Spend

These figures are relatively flat compared to recent history, but down significantly from March 2009, during the worst period of the recession.

Mobile Social Networking Grows

Twenty-eight percent of US mobile subscribers accessed a social networking site via mobile phone in April, compared to 25.3% in January.

Results of “Gaining Traction” indicate that consumer interest in EVs steadily rises with fuel prices, with nearly 100% of consumers willing to consider an EV purchase if fuel prices surpass $7 per gallon.

TV Remains Dominant Video Device

CEA research finds nine in ten (93%) US households view content on a TV, followed by computers (49%), car video entertainment (13%), cell phones/smartphones (13%) and MP3 players (11%).

Findings from the “2011 Social Shopping Survey” indicate two-thirds of Twitter users (67%) say a post has spurred them to click through to a website, as do more than half of Facebook users (56%).

Mobile Display Advertisers Double in 2 Yrs

An analysis of advertised categories revealed that mobile content and publishing accounted for 50% of mobile ads, while 26% of display advertisements were for consumer discretionary goods, IT accounted for 7%, and financial services accounted for 6% of mobile display ads.

LinkedIn Seen as Most Important SocNet

Data from “S-Net: A Study in Social Media Usage and Behavior” indicates 59% of online consumers rate having a LinkedIn account 4 or 5 on a five-point importance scale, compared to 53% giving this level of importance to having a Facebook account.
